Coastal Bar Crossings - Knowledge Builder

Salty Fishing Charters’ Coastal Bar Crossing Tuition is an on-water, knowledge building experience designed to boost confidence, awareness and real-world decision-making for boaties operating near coastal bars. **The knowledge-builder is an observational & theory experience only. Separate Practical hands-on experience to be booked and conducted in your own vessel that you will be conducting future bar crossings in.**

This course is not a certificate of competency. It is an experience-building program that draws on over 30 years of professional offshore and coastal bar crossing knowledge, shared in a real operating environment by veteran commercial skippers.

While the training specialises in the Caloundra Bar, the knowledge and principles taught, apply to any coastal bar, helping participants better understand how to assess conditions, read swell and tides, choose safe lines, and make sound go / no-go decisions in constantly changing marine environments.

Participants will be on the water observing real conditions, gaining practical insight into vessel handling, timing, throttle control and risk management.

The focus of this experience is on:

• Situational awareness

• Decision-making under real conditions

• Practical bar reading skills

• Building confidence through understanding, not shortcuts

Each participant will receive:

• A Certificate of Attendance

• Information sheets and guidance material to support ongoing learning

Final responsibility for vessel operation and safety always remains with the skipper in command.
